transcended his relatively humble origins to become the most feared man in the city. As the war with the Fire Nation spread
and refugees began pouring into Ba Sing Se in greater and greater numbers, Long Feng decided to keep all information relating
to the war away from the Earth King, thereby appointing himself the sole dictator in matters relating to international affairs.
Even the Council of Generals could not break through his stranglehold on the Royal Palace, cowed by Long Feng's secret police.
Long Feng created the secret prison beneath Lake Laogai where he could stash anyone in the city who dared to stand against
him, and developed the brainwashing techniques that disabled his foes.

The Earth King |
Name- Kuei
Title- The Earth King Age- Unknown Nation- Earth Kingdom
Hair- Black Eyes- Black Identifying Marks- None Likes- His
Bear Dislikes- Unknown
First Appearance- Season 2, Episode, 18- The Earth King
The most powerful ruler in the Earth Kingdom, his palace sits in the center of Ba Sing Se. The current Earth King (the
fifty-second in his royal line) was once called Kuei, but after coronation the Earth Kings traditionally renounce any personal
name, thereafter referred to only by their title or "Your Majesty", and are considered by their subjects as almost god-like
in stature. Once proud warrior-kings who ruled their lands personally (and sometimes brutally), over the generations the Earth
Kings ceded more and more control over the day-to-day operations of their city to the Byzantine governmental structure that
sprung up around them. Now the young Earth King is little more than a figurehead who lives a lavish lifestyle surrounded by
courtesans and sycophants, lending one of his royal seals (there are sixty-seven different seals, used on different occasions,
depending on the document in question) to whatever decrees and laws his advisors suggest. The current Earth King has never
journeyed outside the Palace walls and knows next to nothing about what happens in the outside world. His main interest is
in collecting rare animals from around the world, which are brought to him by zoological expeditions sent out from the University
of Ba Sing Se.
Kuei became Earth King at the young age of four, when his father, the fifty-first Earth King died. Because he was so
young and could not make military decisions, that duty fell to the Grand Secretariat, Long Feng. Long Feng became the Earth
King's de facto guardian as well as his advisor. As Kuei grew older, Long Feng claimed that he thought it best not to trouble
the young king with news of the war, so it was decreed that the war would remain a secret from him. But really, Long Feng
kept the war secret so that he could retain power over the Earth King and the city.

These guys are not Dai Li or Earth Kingdom military, but rather, the Earth King's personal protection. The royal guards'
purpose is not to defend the outer wall or invade an enemy country, but to protect the Royal Palace from any uninvited guests
(or anyone flying over the palace). These guards are the first to spot Appa and the kids approaching the palace, and the first
to attack them. Their Earthbending ability allows them to send impressive projectiles from the palace towers (see Surface-to-Air
Rocks). But their ability is not on a level with the Dai Li's skills, and it certainly proves to be no match for the Avatar
and friends, who knock them over like bowling pins.

practices yoga and meditation every day, which is why he is so flexible and has lived for so long. He also has an excellent
sense of humor, but if you try to joke around during meditation, he will quickly get you back on task.
When he was younger, Guru Pathik was a personal friend of the Airbenders and Monk Gyatso. Because Guru Pathik is connected

Unknown First Appearance- Season 2, Episode 15- Tales of Ba Sing Se
You have to admire her -- she asked Zuko out! She wouldn't strike you as aggressive, or even very assertive, but she's
able to get what she wants, in a nice way. She's understanding, kind, and a true romantic. It's a shame Zuko's not exactly
relationship material; she could really have been good for him. Like most people in the lower ring, Jin's parents were refugees
who moved to the city. They have struggled much of their life but they have been strong and able to provide for their family.
